HORIZON RIDER

ADVENTURES BEYOND THE road

Welcome to your next adventure

Most people come here for the resorts. We built Horizon Rider™ for the rest of this island. While other people watch the movie. In Cyprus, you get to ride through it.

Cyprus is a hidden gem. A surprisingly good place to ride an adventure motorcycle. Away from the main towns and resorts there's a huge network of unsurfaced roads and trails crossing the mountains, forests and rural interior.

That's the Cyprus we've spent the last few years exploring.

And we didn't just want to know where the tracks were. We wanted to know which ones were actually worth riding, where they went, how they connected and what sort of riding they offered. That eventually became the network our riders use: Horizon Adventure Tracks — HATs. HATs has more than 2,100 km of personally ridden routes across Cyprus, from straightforward gravel and forest roads through to considerably more technical sections.

It's all loaded onto the navigation system on your motorcycle before you arrive.

And that's really the idea behind Horizon Rider. We provide the bike, accommodation, navigation, tools and the route network. You arrive with your riding kit and decide what you want to do with it. There isn't a guide. We don't decide where you're going each morning or when you're stopping for lunch. We'll help you understand the routes, the bikes and the conditions, and we're around if you need us. But once you leave our base, the day is yours.

Some riders will want long days and plenty of distance. Others will spend half the day messing around on more technical trails. You might decide to head into the mountains, ride out towards the coast or simply follow a route until something else looks more interesting.

That's why HATs is a network rather than a seven-day itinerary.

THE MOTORCYCLES

We currently use the Rieju 307 Rally R and CFMOTO 450MT for our off-road riding, with the CFMOTO 1000MTX for road-biased touring.

We ride these bikes ourselves, on the same terrain you'll be riding. That matters because we don't leave them as standard rental bikes. Suspension, ergonomics, protection, tyres and other details are changed where we've found there is a worthwhile reason to change them. There are also different seat-height options because not everybody is 6'1". You can read exactly what we've done to each bike on the Fleet page. There isn't much mystery to it.

YOUR BASE

Horizon Rider operates from our base near Polis Chrysochous in western Cyprus in the foothills of the Troodos mountains.

Our self-contained rider cottage sleeps four in two twin rooms and has its own kitchen and living area, bathroom and garden, plus the practical things that matter after a day on a motorcycle — somewhere for the bikes, somewhere for the gear and a washing machine. There's also a private terrace overlooking the mountains and a hot tub, which starts making considerably more sense after a hard day on the trails.

The useful bit is that you unpack once. Most riding days start and finish at The Cottage, but if you want to explore further east, we have all the camping equipment ready for an overnight trip or a multi-day expedition.

WHO IS IT FOR?

Horizon Rider is aimed at people who already ride motorcycles and have some off-road experience. You don't need to be an enduro rider. You do need to be comfortable riding an adventure motorcycle away from tarmac. Beyond that, the difficulty is largely up to you.

Cyprus gives us everything from easy gravel and forest roads to rocky climbs and technical trails. We'll help you understand what you're looking at before you set off.

If you're coming with friends of mixed ability, that's useful too. You don't all have to prove anything.

WHY WE BUILT IT

Horizon Rider didn't really start with a plan to create a motorcycle rental company.

It started with riding Cyprus. One track led to another, which led to another, and after a while it became obvious that there was far more good ADV riding here than most visiting riders knew existed. The difficult part wasn't finding a track. It was finding the tracks worth riding and joining them together properly. Once we'd done that, the next question was fairly obvious:

How would somebody who doesn't live here actually get to experience all this without bringing their motorcycle halfway across Europe and onto an island?

Horizon Rider is our answer. You get yourself and your riding kit to Cyprus. We'll take care of most of the rest.

We facilitate adventures. We don’t dictate them.
